I’m Chelsea Hirschton and I’ve always had a fondness for the printed image. Yet, the real beginning must have been before I was even born – when my dad bought his Pentax K1000 and traveled the country with my mom in their VW bus, snapping photos the whole way. I used to love looking at these images from their life before I was born and reveled in the stories they told. Little did I know that this would set a path in motion for me where I would find myself in San Francisco on a mission to help others capture their memories through my lens.
I credit a dear childhood friend with actually getting me behind the lens. She grew up with a photographer father and I remember countless get-togethers of dramatic staged shoots or bumming around the neighborhood in search of the perfect scene for me, the model, to insert myself in. I loved seeing what she came back with – these were the non-digital days after all! Though I was on the other side of her lens, it was then that I found the connection to framing the world through an eye piece. Our get-togethers soon became her teaching me how to use that K1000, which I promptly assumed as my own and still take out to this day (thanks Dad!), as there is nothing as rich as a true black and white silver print.
After tinkering in photography class in high school, I took my passion to college and studied film photography. The transition to digital was an easy one and I now enjoy both mediums. I pride myself on using my photojournalistic/modern style to creatively capture the candid moments, as well as employing my personalized style in staged set-ups. I can’t wait to work with you to capture your unique moments….
